Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at Info@PhillippaJaneJewellery.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Yes, you can wear it every day — shower, sleep, swim, everything — as long as it’s looked after properly and fits comfortably.

Yes — you can wear your permanent jewellery through airport security without any problems!

Here’s why:

  • Most permanent jewellery is small and delicate, made of fine metals like gold or silver. These materials rarely set off metal detectors.
  • Even if they do, the Security is used to people wearing jewellery — it’s totally normal. You might just get a quick wand scan or pat-down if it alerts the system, but you shouldn't have to remove it.

Great question — caring for your permanent jewellery properly helps it stay shiny and beautiful for years! ✨

Here’s a simple guide depending on your metal type and lifestyle:

💎 1. Clean it regularly

Even though it’s permanent, it still collects oils, soap, and dirt.

  • At home: Use warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft toothbrush.
  • Rinse & dry: Pat dry with a soft cloth to avoid water spots.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals: No bleach, alcohol, or jewellery cleaners unless they’re made for your specific metal.

🌊 2. Be mindful of exposure

Your jewellery is built to last, but a little care goes a long way:

  • Swimming: Occasional dips are fine, but rinse after swimming — chlorine and salt can dull metals over time.
  • Lotions & perfumes: Apply these before they touch your jewellery to prevent buildup or tarnish.
  • Hot tubs & saunas: Heat and chemicals can speed up tarnishing, especially on silver or gold-filled pieces.

🏋️‍♀️ 3. Consider your lifestyle

  • Active people: If you do contact sports, heavy lifting, or activities that pull at the chain, check that your piece sits comfortably and isn’t at risk of snagging.
  • Sleep: Totally safe to sleep in! Just make sure it’s not twisted or tight.

🧼 4. Occasional professional check-up

If your jewellery was applied by a permanent jewellery artist, you can visit them occasionally to:

  • Check the weld for strength.
  • Give it a professional polish if needed.

✨ Bonus tip: Material matters

  • Solid gold: Easiest to maintain — won’t tarnish or fade.
  • Gold-filled: Durable, but avoid harsh chemicals to preserve the layer.
  • Sterling silver: May tarnish slightly over time; regular cleaning keeps it bright.

If your permanent Jewellery breaks at the weld point within 30 days of welding, we will re weld this for you for free! If the item breaks at any other link or timeframe, we can weld this for a small charge.

That’s a super common question — and the short answer is no, permanent jewellery doesn’t hurt! 💫

Here’s what to expect:

💎 What actually happens

  • The jeweller places a chain around your wrist, ankle, or neck and then welds the ends together to create a seamless loop.
  • The welding process uses a tiny micro-spark — it’s quick, safe, and done on the metal, not on your skin.
  • You’ll usually feel nothing at all, or at most a tiny warmth from the spark (similar to a static zap in the air, not on your skin).

🧤 Safety measures

  • A protective barrier (like leather or fabric) is placed between your skin and the chain during welding.
  • The weld is done with a precision micro-welder, so there’s no open flame or risk of burns.
  • It’s completely safe — even for sensitive skin — as long as it’s done by a trained professional.

That’s a great and really practical question — because even though permanent jewellery is meant to be worn 24/7, it can definitely be removed safely if you ever need or want to. 💫

Here’s what you should know:

✂️ 1. You can remove it — it’s just a simple cut

  • Permanent jewellery is attached with a tiny welded link — that’s the only part keeping it “permanent.”
  • To remove it, you can:
    • Visit us and we can safely snip it at the weld point.
    • Or, if you need to do it yourself (in an emergency), use small scissors or wire cutters and carefully cut one single link — ideally at the weld spot.
  • It’s quick, safe, and painless.

💎 2. You can have it reattached later

Jewellers who offer permanent jewellery can:

  • Re-weld the same piece back on if it’s still in good shape, or
  • Replace the small link if needed.

So if you have to remove it for surgery, MRI, or any reason, don’t worry — it doesn’t have to be “goodbye forever.”

Yes — you definitely can add charms to your permanent jewellery! ✨

In fact, it’s one of the most fun parts of having a welded piece — you can make it completely your own over time.

Great question — the permanent jewellery process is actually really quick! 💫

Here’s what to expect step-by-step:

⏱️ 1. The whole appointment usually takes 10–20 minutes

That includes:

  • Choosing your chain (metal type, style, and fit)
  • Measuring and sizing it perfectly to your wrist, ankle, or neck
  • Welding the chain closed with a tiny micro-spark

The actual welding part? It takes just a few seconds! ⚡

💎 2. If you’re adding charms or multiple pieces

  • Adding charms or getting matching sets (like friendship bracelets or anklets) might take a bit longer — around 20–30 minutes total.
  • Each additional chain or charm adds just a couple extra minutes.
